Blackcurrant Sorbet wins silver at the 2009 Ice Cream Awards

Nelson’s Penguino gelato ice cream and sorbet manufacturer has recently been awarded a silver medal for their popular blackcurrant sorbet at the 2009 New Zealand Ice Cream Awards. The winners were announced at the awards dinner held during the NZ Ice Cream Manufacturers' Association Conference in Palmerston North in May 2009.

Penguino were awarded four of these sought-after awards: one gold and three silvers awards. This success shows the quality and superior taste of their innovative product range, all of which are made locally in Nelson. The blackcurrant sorbet is a relatively recent addition to their product range, and it has rapidly become one of their top selling sorbets.

The blackcurrants are supplied as frozen IQF berries by the New Zealand Blackcurrant Co-operative, using locally grown fruit, to allow Penguino to deliver the taste of fresh, ripe blackcurrants to their customers. Blackcurrants make a beautiful, deep purple sorbet. The distinctive tangy blackcurrant flavour is further enhanced by the sorbet making process.

This blackcurrant sorbet was recently showcased at the Sarau Blackcurrant Festival in Upper Moutere, in Nelson and also on the New Zealand stand at the Japanese Food Expo in Tokyo, earlier this year.
